Job Responsibilities:Lead the development of the University Disability services through establishing and managing the delivery of responsive, high-quality and student-focused service for both current and prospective students with a disability, specific learning difficulty or long-term health condition.Establish and monitor inclusive practices and policies across the University to support disabled students and ensure that students are consulted and involved in aspects of planning and monitoring services.Promote a culture of inclusivity both within the University and externally where appropriate. Work with colleagues from across Professional Services on educational programmes of awareness for both new and existing students, and staff, on disabilities and disability provision.Work on the creation and implementation of a Reasonable Adjustments policy and process to ensure that they are useful to students, academic staff and relevant professional services. Liaise with colleagues from across the University to ensure that Reasonable Adjustments are fully implemented.Work closely with colleagues across the University to ensure that, where possible, Reasonable Adjustments are assessed in advance of student enrollment and that study and support plans are implemented within a pre-defined time after a student has enrolled.Refer student cases to, and liaise with, external specialist services as and when appropriate to support and assess individual needs as well as assisting students in interactions with external providers as necessary.Handle the case management of students presenting with diverse and complex sets of needs, ensure suitable confidential student case records are up to date and secure.Interact with parents and guardians, where appropriate, over student support needs and help to facilitate conversations around expectations and management of Reasonable Adjustments.Work closely with colleagues across professional services to holistically review all aspects of on-campus disability provision including accessibility, mobility, signage, computing needs, communal and dedicated teaching and learning spaces, social spaces, etc.Work closely with colleagues across the University to ensure collaboration and leverage of existing disability support practice and ensure appropriate overlap with the central Student Services.Work closely with the Director of Student Services, and colleagues across Professional Services, in connection with a holistic portfolio of services in relation to causes for concern, Fitness to Study, Safeguarding and related matters to ensure that policies and procedures are in place and effectively implemented. This includes managing these processes in practice directly with [Register to View] a first point of contact within the organization for all Safeguarding and Student Wellbeing related concerns. Assist the Student Counsellor and Wellbeing Advisor in developing and delivering relevant areas of training, for both students and staff, in relation to Safeguarding.Assist in the promotion of Disability services, as well as wider student support services, to improve the student experience for all BUE students.Produce regular written reports on numbers using the service outlying a general overview of the types of problems with which users of the service are presenting and any recommendations.Work proactively to ensure that student with disabilities are encouraged to apply to BUE, and work towards widening participation where possible.Working collaboratively with Employability and Careers functions to review and develop disability provision in relation to student [Register to View] aware of national and international best practice, issues and trends relating to young adults with disabilities and their pastoral care.In conjunction with the Director of Student Services periodically review the Disability services processes and procedures to ensure that they meet the needs of all disabled students including Doctoral and postgraduate taught studentsBe proactively involved in the planning, organization and implementation of the wider Student Service and Student Hub activities and initiatives as necessary.Produce and update material for publication on the student hub webpages and student portal, as well as print media, related to Disability services and [Register to View] undertake other duties and responsibilities as reasonably required by the Director of Student Services as and when necessary. Job Requirements:Educational Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree at 2.1 level (or equivalent)Relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g. Masters/PhD) (desirable)Qualified Disability Practitioner (accredited and internationally recognized) Experience: Minimum of five years relevant work experience.In-depth understanding of the requirements of international best practice in terms of Disability support in HE and ‘Reasonable Adjustments’Experience of developing strategies for Disability support services, and inclusive practices.Experience in the delivery of high standards of customer service within an employer facing or service delivery environment.Experience of leading change management within organizations, influencing cultural change in teams and breaking down barriers to effective working practices.Experience of casework management relating to students presenting with complex needsAn awareness of the range of needs of people from diverse cultural and social backgroundsAbility to take responsibility for and work towards resolving complex personal matters including handling situations of students in crisis.
